Congratulations to Danielle H for winning Student Chef of the Year 2011
Sorcha H and Danielle H competed in this year's Student Chef of the Year competition at The Dome in Buxton.
Sorcha was awarded a merit for her performance and Danielle won! Well done to both.
"Competing in the Student Chef of the Year competition was an amazing experience. I was asked to represent the school on the day and I am really glad I did. The planning process leading up to the event was very detailed. We were asked to provide costing for everything we used as our budget was 1.50 using industry costing to create a two course meal suitable for sale in a school canteen.
On the day of the competition, we all went to the Buxton College and were given the opportunity to use their industry standard kitchens to make our dishes. Whilst we were cooking, the judges came around and asked us questions about our meal and scored our practical skills.
When 1 hour 30 mins time limit was up, we had to use our presentational skills to plate the food up, as you would expect in a restaurant.
The tension then began as the competitors were asked to leave the competition area and lunch was provided whilst the judges deliberated.
The results were announced in the Dome of the University in front of the competitors and their supporters.
Winning the competition has given me a lot more opportunities with my cooking and I am really looking forward to going down to London for my prize which is a day at Prue Leith's Cookery School."
