Guide Dogs for the Blind

Paula Hyde (parent of two ex-pupils) came into St Thomas More Catholic School with her guide dog Quiver to talk to each year group about her experience of becoming partially sighted and the difference her dog had made to her independence. Pupils  learnt  how to behave around a working dog, how they are trained and the overall cost. They were given the opportunity to do ‘blind walks’ wearing special glasses that enabled them to experience different levels of blindness.  By making a donation for wearing their own clothes to school for the day £500 was raised to support the work of the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.
