December 2013 Skiing at Alpendorf .............

As 2013 was drawing to a close, a group of students from St Thomas more set off to the slopes to experience the wonders of Austria. Even after an exhausting 24 hour coach journey, everyone was still in good spirits and itching to get their skis on. Each day we were not so kindly woken at half past six sharp and a strict breakfast hour of seven meant there was no time for lying in. However, the early mornings were almost definitely worth it as, on the mornings when no one had forgotten their lift pass or managed to lock themselves into their own bedroom, we were ready to ski at eight thirty. Led by our skilled ski instructors Tom, Anna, Christian and Adam, we spent six exhilarating hours learning and building on own ski ability; every day challenged what we had done the day before meaning that everyone set and surpassed their own individual targets. And even when we’d unclipped our skis and hung up our ski boots there was still no time to sit around as we were off to our evening excursions. From a brilliant game of nine pin bowling to an evening spent shopping in the gorgeous Salzburg Christmas markets, each evening we spent together added to the idyllic holiday in the idyllic setting. To celebrate our achievements on and off the snow, on the final evening we gathered together to award individuals for their bravery, determination and outright stupidity closely followed by Mr Walsh’ most memorable pub style quiz: a very special ending to a very special holiday.
