St Thomas More Catholic High School in Buxton has won the Derbyshire Reading Challenge again!

This is the third time the small school in Buxton has won the reading challenge in the past five years. The competition, held at Tupton School in Chesterfield on Wednesday 25th June, was attended by over 20 secondary schools from all over Derbyshire. It was a very close finish with Highfields School in Matlock taking second place and Lady Manners School in Bakewell coming third.

The students (Katie Marrow, Rebecca Marrow-Y9, Jacob Miller-Y8 and Anthony Hall- Y7) pictured above, had to answer questions on a range of literature texts, from modern teenage fiction to Grimm’s fairy tales. Mrs Clifford, the head of English at St Thomas More School, said ‘We have an excellent tradition of promoting reading at our school and this competition gives students an opportunity to show their knowledge and enthusiasm for reading. I am always surprised by the students’ incredible ability to remember details about the texts that they have read. They were amazing!’
