Peer Mentoring Scheme

Peer Mentoring at St Thomas More Catholic Shool Buxton.

PMs Galore at St Thomas More!

No,  of course we’re not talking about politicians! Our PMs are trained to listen to people!

During the last 2 years at school, we have set up our very own Peer Mentoring scheme.  In order for us to become Peer Mentors we had to go through 6 weeks of training – but don’t worry, it’s not scary! Training included fun games to learn more about our team mates, a drama where we pretended that someone new had just started at school.  One of us was nominated as the new arrival and we had to act as if she had just joined our form.  What do you say? How do you get to know each other? How hard would it be for us to have to start again in a new school?

The training definitely pulls you out of your comfort zone, but helps to build your confidence when you talk to new people.  It helped us to make new friends within our group of trainees and even though there aren’t many of us this year, there’s definitely a sense of community, which is great.  And you get to work in small groups of 2 or 3 with your friends!

One of the jobs our Y10 PMs managed to oversee this year was a poster competition where our Y7 pupils were asked to design a poster to promote our Peer Mentoring scheme around school. A copy of the winning poster will be displayed in each room.

Below is the poster that was designed by Sophia Nielsen from 7F
