SSAT Awards 2011

St Thomas More receives 2 awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust for their examination results. (May 2011)

St Thomas More School are once again celebrating their success after receiving two more awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust following their excellent GCSE results last summer. This follows the 3 accolades received for their 2008 results and the achievement of being the only school in Derbyshire and 1 of only 89 schools in the country to receive all three awards. In 2009 the school was named by the authority as achieving the second highest contextual value added score out of the 47 schools in the local authority.

The 2 most recent awards received for the 2010 results, recognise the progress made where students have received 5 or more A* to C GCSE grades including English and Maths and celebrate the fact that St Thomas More School is one of the top 5 Science Specialist Colleges in terms of progress in the East Midlands region and Nationally.

Mr Brendan Hickey, Headteacher commented “It is good when the achievements of so many young people and the hard work of the staff and parents are recognised by external measures. Whether the students are of the Catholic faith, of other faiths or of no faith, St Thomas More Catholic School works hard for all its community.”

Elizabeth Reid, Chief Executive of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, said: "Successful schools understand the value of data, such as these value-added scores, in helping to ensure all young people perform to the very best of their ability. The value-added measures show how schools make a difference and raise achievement above expectations. These results show the commitment and hard work of teachers and students in schools across the country. They demonstrate the power of high expectations, good teaching and the ambition for every young person to get the qualifications they need to have the best possible choices of career or education in later life."
