Schools Direct Buxton Community Partnership
From September 2014 St Thomas More Catholic School will be working with Buxton Community Partnership and Manchester Metropolitan University to offer ITT places leading to PGCE with QTS(qualified teacher status) and 60 masters credits. We are a group of schools that are all deeply rooted in our local communities. We build positive relationships for learning across all school phases and seek to develop children holistically – their personal qualities as well as their intellectual understanding. Training with our Community Partnership will enable teachers of the future to learn within an environment where every individual is valued and expected to support each other.
Schools Direct is a school led model with an emphasis put on time spent in school. Training will commence at the start of the school year and continue until the end of the school year. Trainees will have placements at two different schools in the partnership. Placement A will be 24 weeks and placement B will be 10 weeks. Training may take place at any of the schools in the partnership, depending on the subject specialism/phase. We guarantee an interview for any posts that may arise within the partnership in the relevant subject or phase. We have offered places based on the usual recruitment pattern within the partnership.
St Thomas More Catholic School works closely with Buxton Community School, the lead school within the partnership. In May 2013 STM was judged to be a good school with outstanding behaviour. Buxton Community Partnership has a strong commitment to innovation and creativity and to enabling trainees to develop their skills in pedagogy. The schools within the partnership serve a diverse community, including some pockets of social and economic deprivation. We are committed to meeting the needs of all learners, regardless of ability or background. We welcome applications from those who share our commitment and enthusiasm for learning and supporting children and young people of all abilities.
Pre-entry tests in English and maths have to be passed in order to gain a place and we advise applicants to pass these before interview.
Selection and recruitment will be made jointly by the Lead school, partnership colleagues and MMU. Candidates will need to demonstrate evidence of substantial relevant experience in a UK primary or secondary school within the last two years. This experience must have been completed within the last two years and should be a minimum of 3 weeks for Primary Education and two weeks for Secondary.
MMU are an outstanding provider at both Primary and Secondary and have a wide range of subject specialists in comparison to many other HEIs. School Direct Trainees will have access to MMUs specialist subject training. Assignments will be set by MMU (60 masters credits). (NB this is an academic route and trainees must be able to work at Masters Level).
